  Color Cookbook

 

  Grade: 6

 

 Materials: Watercolor Paint, Brushes, Mixing Trays, Water, Watercolor Paper (11 x 17)

 

Activity: Students explored the limitations and qualities of watercolor paint, specifically it's color mixing abilities, and simple bookmaking in the creation of a "Color Cookbook". This cookbook allows students to explore their color theory by creating a book in which they create a custom color, write down it's "recipe" and name it. Building this book acts as an artists resource that they can use to create paintings of any subject. 

 Instructions:  1. Show students how to make an accordian book a one page book

                         2. Start with the cover. Include Name of student, Name of book, and all custom colors

                         3. Letter each page

                         4. Open paper flat. On each page draw a shape and fill it in with a custom color

                         5. Write down the recipe and name (yellow + red + blue = wallop orange)
